🍊 National Orange Wine Day: Don’t Be Scared of Orange Wine!

Orange wine might sound mysterious, but it’s actually pretty simple—and no oranges are involved. 🍊

Here’s an easy way to think about it: rosé starts with red grapes, while orange wine starts with white grapes. When grapes are crushed to make wine, the juice can either be separated from the grape skins right away (as we see in white wine), or left to soak and ferment with them. That time spent with the skins is called “skin contact.”

For rosé, red grape juice spends just a short time with its dark skins, picking up that beautiful pink color. For orange wine, white grape juice stays with its skins longer, giving the wine its golden or amber hue along with more texture, flavor, and sometimes a little tannin. Same basic idea, opposite grapes!

For National Orange Wine Day, we’re pouring a special flight of three different expressions of orange wine so you can taste just how varied this style can be. Whether you already love orange wine or have always wondered what the heck it is, this is the perfect excuse to explore. 🧡🍷
